Build IT International is an international NGO that has operated in Zambia since 2006. We manage a program of community building projects in Zambia using an approach that:
- Trains local people in basic building skills
- Promotes the use of local building materials
- Involves the community
Sustainability is critical for us in terms of skills, materials and community involvement. We have a partnership agreement with NCC and are currently enjoying a period of expansion with at least six projects planned for 2010 ranging from Zkw100M to Zkw300M.
As a result we now work opportunities for the following positions:

Construction Programme Manager
This new senior post has responsibility for the delivery of our rolling programme of building works. S/he will ensure that projects achieve their objectives including completion to a high standard, on time and within budget. The right person will be able to demonstrate a strong affinity with our work as well as technical competence and experience.

Contractors – Level 5 or 6
To construct community schools, usually 2 or 3 classroom blocks schools using Build IT International’s unique hexagonal design, to architects detailed drawings. A high quality of finish is expected.
Labour will be provided local trainees following a three week training course to TEVETA specifications. The contractor will provide work experience to these trainees over a three month period and then hire them on the usual rates.
Typical contract value (labour only) ZKw 20M – Zkw 75M + bonus. We supply materials.
Contractors are expected to:
- Appoint their own site foreman
- Maintain good relations with local community
- Follow strict health and safety rules
- Live on site for duration of the contract.
We expect the right contractors to have excellent references and be registered level 5 or 6 with an NCC building management diploma or equivalent. S/he should have at least 10 years experience in managing construction projects.
